What has been your education and career path so far?
I received my Bachelors in Organizational Communication from the University of Portland Masters in Operations and Project Management from Southern New Hampshire University. After college, I served 2 years as an AmeriCorps VISTA teaching entrepreneurship to at-risk youth. Then I served 4 years active duty with the US Coast Guard as a Marine Science Technician. Following my enlistment, I decided to head back to Oregon and open a mobile wood fired pizza catering business.
What interests you or inspired you to pursue in a career in animal law and policy?
After having a moment of clarity and realizing how awful the meat and dairy industry is to our precious animals, I turned my wood fired pizza business completely vegan. However, I felt like I wasn't making a big enough impact for the animals, so I sold my business and as soon as I found the VLGS Animal Law program and knew I had to apply! One of the things I am most interested in is the Farmed Animal Advocacy Clinic, and the variety of animal law courses that are available at VLGS. I consider my time in the JD/MAPP program as training to become a leading animal advocate, not only for farmed animals, but any animal needing legal protection.
Why did you choose Vermont Law and Graduate School?
The location was one factor, because I love New England. The other factor was the Animal Law program, and the supportive vibe I got from staff at VLGS before I even applied.
