Vermont Law School students invite the public to a free screening of "Unafraid: Voices from the Crime Victims Treatment Center" at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The documentary film will be shown in the Nina Thomas Classroom, Debevoise Hall, on the VLS campus, and will open "Take Back the Night," an annual event sponsored by Law Students for Reproductive Justice to give victims of sexual or domestic violence an opportunity to reclaim their voices.
"Unafraid," a film by Karin and Eddie Venegas, explores the impact of rape and the capacity of ordinary individuals to effect change. The documentary is set at the Crime Victims Treatment Center in Manhattan, and chronicles the stories of four rape survivors on their journey toward healing.
"One in four women and one in eight men are affected by sexual violence," said Amy Elizabeth Davis '15, president of the Vermont Practice Society and a Student Bar Association parliamentarian. "This is an opportunity for Vermont Law School and our surrounding community to stand in solidarity in a global movement to end sexual violence."
The screening is sponsored by the Vermont Practice Society, VLS chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, Women's Law Group, Law Students for Reproductive Justice, and SPEAK.
