About This Class

The commercialization and transfer of intellectual property rights (IPR) plays an important role in various global business arenas (e.g., digital media, technology, arts and entertainment). This course will introduce students to the legal issues involved in the creation, protection and commercialization of IPR in our global economy. Students will gain an understanding of the different types of IPR (e.g., copyright, trade secret), practical ways to protect it, relevant US laws and international treaties. The primary focus will be on copyright law and issues related to an international licensing deal. Students will advise clients on substantive international copyright matters, IPR protection methods and complete an international transaction involving the commercial licensing of artistic works.
