Veterans Law Student Association Sponsors Sept. 11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk to Benefit South Royalton School

Monday, July 25, 2016

SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt.

The Veterans Law Student Association (VLSA) at Vermont Law School, with support from the Department of Vermont Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), invites community members to join VLS students for the second annual September 11, 2001 Memorial 5K Run/Walk at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. The 5K will start on the South Royalton Green and finish on the VLS campus with a picnic and live entertainment.

Registration is $25 and covers the picnic and a T-shirt. Any proceeds from the event will benefit the South Royalton School Playground Fund.

"The Veterans Law Student Association at VLS is committed to service and to honoring the memories of those who lost their lives during the tragic events of September 11, 2001," said Matthew Pritchard '18, president of the VLSA and candidate for juris doctor (JD) and Master of Environmental Law and Policy (MELP) degrees.

"This year the proceeds from the 5K will provide desperately needed funds for an upgraded playground at the South Royalton School, to allow unified access under the Americans with Disabilities Act," Pritchard said. "While the school has held fundraisers and received federal support, it is short by about $20,000. The current playground is in disrepair and not accessible to all students, and the VLSA is grateful for this opportunity to change that. We hope our Vermont neighbors will join us."

The VLSA asks local businesses to consider supporting the 5K with a donation in the form of cash, gifts, or prizes.
