The Center for Legal Innovation (CLI) at Vermont Law School will attend LegalTech New York, Feb. 2-4, marking the sixth year that VLS faculty and students will represent at the largest annual legal technology event in the nation.
LegalTech draws thousands of professionals seeking the latest information in a multibillion-dollar industry to improve the practice of law in a changing technological world. LegalTech panels and presentations cover information governance, eDiscovery, security trends, risk and compliance, data espionage, analytics and more. And U.S. district court judges from around the country are slated to participate in this year's keynote panel, titled "How Is Technology Being Used in Today's Court Rooms and Cases?"
CLI Co-Directors Oliver Goodenough and Jeannette Eicks will lead the VLS delegation.
"The LegalTech experience is invaluable to our students and to Vermont Law School's Center for Legal Innovation, which develops research projects with technology leaders like LexisNexis and Google," Eicks said. "The show is a great networking event, leading to jobs for our alumni at tech-driven companies. We're looking forward to sharing this experience with VLS students again this year."
"We have spent the last year learning about how important the law and technology are to one another and how they interact," said Brian Dunne '16, who is enrolled in the Accelerated Juris Doctor (AJD) program at VLS. "LegalTech will be our chance to see the cutting edge of this field."
The Center for Legal Innovation at VLS is dedicated to helping create a future where innovation and entrepreneurial energy redefine legal education, the practice of law, and law itself. CLI provides both a scholarly and practical environment for an exploration of what law is and a platform to influence what law will be, including a summer Hacktivist program open to technology-proficient undergraduates and law students interested in technology.
