Bachhttp://portal.vermontlaw.edu/Metacatalogs/Lists/People/DispForm.aspx?ID=2BachTracy BachProfessor of Law<img alt="" src="http://www-assets.vermontlaw.edu/Assets/directories/people/bach_tracy.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" />JD, University of Minnesota, 1994MA, University of Minnesota, 1994BA, Yale University, 1984802-831-1289TBACH@vermontlaw.edu<div>Since joining the VLS faculty in 1996, Professor Tracy Bach has taught a wide variety of courses, including Health Law and Environmental Health Law; Appellate Advocacy, Dispute Resolution, and Professional Responsibility; and Genocide.  A Fulbright Scholar in Dakar, Senegal from 2009-10, Professor's Bach's most recent work has focused on climate change, environmental health, and the implications of both for the developing world.  You can read her blog about climate change and Africa at http://simmeringsenegal.wordpress.com/home/ and her environmental health blog at http://wordpress.vermontlaw.edu/environmentalhealth/. <br> <br>Professor Bach received her BA degree in history, cum laude, from Yale University in 1984 and completed coursework in French language and civilization at the New York University in Paris program.  In 1994, she earned her JD degree, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School, along with a MA degree in public affairs from the U of M's Hubert Humphrey Institute.  Professor Bach was an article editor for the Minnesota Law Review; a director of the 1992 Jessup International Moot Court Competition Team and member of the prize-winning team at the regional and national levels; and the recipient of the Steven M. Block Prize for Best Paper in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and the 1993 Minnesota Law Review Volume 35-36 Award for Best Student Article. <br> <br>Before becoming a lawyer, Professor Bach worked in health care finance and management for a midsized New York City consulting firm and a large midwestern hospital chain.  Before joining Vermont Law School's faculty, she interned for the trial and appellate courts of the Non-Removable Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa Indians and clerked for the Honorable Harriet Lansing of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. <br> <br>In 2007, VLS made Professor Bach the Associate Director and Senior Research Fellow of the Climate Legacy Initiative, a grant-funded project that published Recalibrating the Law of Humans with the Laws of Nature:  Climate Change, Human Rights, and Intergenerational Justice in 2009.  She presented this white paper in Copenhagen at a COP15 side event on Intergenerational Equity and Climate Change, sponsored by the European Youth Forum on COP15's Young and Future Generations Day.  Professor Bach has also served as an external peer reviewer for the Intergenerational Justice Review (IGJR), a quarterly publication in English and German of the Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations. <br> <br> Professor Bach has consulted for the Dartmouth Center for Environmental Health Sciences; been selected as an associate of the Vermont Leadership Institute; served on Legal Writing Institute and AALS Section on Legal Writing, Reasoning, and Research committees; and visited or guest lectured at the law faculties of the National University of Rwanda, Petrozavodsk State University (Russia), University of Paris 13, University of Cergy-Pontoise, and Cheikh Anta Diop University (Senegal).  Most recently, she was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools Africa Section, and to the Fulbright Scholar Peer Review Committee for West and Central/Southern Africa. <br> <br> Professor Bach has served as Deputy Editor for The International Lawyer, 2012 Year in Review article on Africa, (Spring, 2012 and 2013 editions); contributed on intergenerational justice to The Encyclopedia of Political Thought (Wiley-Blackwell, forthcoming 2012); and written Les juridictions américaines face aux changements climatiques, Journee d'Etudes de CERAP de l'Universite de Paris 13 (les éditions Bruylant, automne 2009); Trends in U.S. Climate Change Litigation, Japan Environmental Lawyers' Foundation (Summer 2008) (translated into Japanese); High Noon in the Abortion Battle?
