Donations Welcome to Fulfill $150K Matching Gift Opportunity
SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt. (November 26, 2025) — A recent pledge to a Vermont Law and Graduate School scholarship fund brings the total endowed amount to nearly $1 million.
The Rachel L. Carson Scholarship Fund, established by anonymous donors in 2017 with a gift of $200,000 and a VLGS match of $100,000, has now received another gift from the founding donors — this time $350,000 with a VLGS match of $150,000.
The fund’s namesake, Rachel Carson, was an advocate for the environment. Best known for her book, “Silent Spring,” she raised the flag nationally about issues like pesticides and the relationship of the environment with health and safety.
Students eligible for the scholarship demonstrate financial need, academic excellence and, like Carson, a passion for environmental protection.
“This gift, and continued support for the Rachel L. Carson Scholarship Fund, provides a chance for dedicated students to deepen their role in environmental advocacy,” said Dave Celone JD’92, vice president for alumni relations and development at VLGS. “We thank these generous donors for their commitment to educating our future environmental leaders.”
The Rachel L. Carson Scholarship Fund — which supports three students each year — is open to all donors who wish to help the school reach the required $150,000 matching component in order for VLGS to receive the full $350,000 pledge.
