Race and the Law Symposium

Race and the Law Symposium

9:00am - 1:00pm

Each year, Vermont Law School's Black Law Student Association hosts the Annual Race and the Law Symposium, offering a general theme involving the law’s impact on people of color.

A creative illustration depicting people of color addressing 21st century disparities in legal preparedness and employment.

The legal field is disproportionately non- inclusive. White people make up over 80% of the field, while Latinx and Black people make up less than 6%. Pacific Islanders and Asian people make up less than 4% of lawyers, with Native Indigenous comprising less than 1%. This lack of inclusion is a growing issue that educators and employers need to address more consistently. Join us for a discussion on the importance of mentorship, true diversity and inclusion, and mental health in supporting the preparedness of Black legal scholars.
