About the speaker: 

Chhaya Bhardwaj is currently an Associate Professor of law at the Jindal Global Law School, Assistant Director of the Center for Environmental Law and Climate Change and has taught at the Jindal School of Environment and Sustainability. She is a Member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Rapporteur at the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University. She is also a visiting faculty at Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida, since 2019 and at the Indian Society of International Law since 2017. 

She pursued her B.A.; LL.B. from Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut. She received International Environmental Law Fellowship Award to pursue a Master’s Degree at Vermont Law School, USA. She also received United Nations Fellowship in 2017 to pursue a Regional Course in International Law from the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs. 

Her teaching and research are at the intersection of law, environment, and climate change. She writes on environmental laws, disaster laws, climate change and international law. The other positions include “Virtual Visiting Scholar” (June 2023 to June 2024) with the George Washington School of Law; “Visiting Scholar” (December 2022 to January 2023) with Dublin City University, and “Summer Fellow” with the University of London’s initiative on internal displacement. 

She has contributed to the work of international organizations like the United Nations International Law Commission, International Organization for Migration and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; on issues concerning sea-level rise, climate change, protection of the atmosphere, human rights and international law.
