Biography

Katie Merrill is the dean of admissions at Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS), where she has served since 2013 in progressively responsible roles, including admissions counselor, associate director, director, and assistant dean, before becoming dean of admissions in 2023. With more than a decade of experience in legal education admissions, she brings a strategic, student-centered approach focused on access, equity, and mission-aligned enrollment management.

Prior to her work in higher education, Katie held roles in event planning, real estate, and mortgage services, experiences that have shaped her strengths in relationship building and organizational leadership. She has been actively engaged in community and institutional service, including six years as a board member of Zack’s Place, an enrichment center for adults with special needs; grassroots organizing supporting undocumented workers; and service as a staff representative to the VLGS Board of Trustees.

Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Utah and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Her professional interests include employer collaboration, strategic brand development, and expanding pathways into legal education through flexible and online learning models.
