COP20/CMP10 Observer Delegation
December 1, 2014 @ 10:00 am - December 12, 2014 @ 12:00 am EST
The Vermont Law School (VLS) COP20/CMP10 Observer Delegation is composed of selected JD, MELP, MERL, and LLM students studying climate change and international environmental law. The delegation is led by Professor Tracy Bach. This 3-credit Special Topics course enables students to do applied learning in international climate change law by representing the Vermont Law School on our COP20 Observer Delegation to Lima, Peru in December, 2014. The course is organized around two components: a weekly class for the full semester and one week of on-site experiential learning at the Conference of Parties (COP). Delegation members will attend plenary sessions and side events, follow negotiations and issue development, and blog about their observations and analysis. In addition, students will work to support a least developed country (LDC) delegation in the COP20/CMP10 negotiations, to enhance their learning through service to others. The VLS delegation will track topics of interest for this UNFCCC state party, brief it on COP activities, and prepare research and analysis of COP20/CMP10 negotiation issues. In this way, student members of the VLS Observer Delegation come away from COP20/CMP10 with a deeper understanding of international environmental lawmaking informed by first-hand experience.
