Amber Widmayer is the Regulatory Specialist for Burlington Electric Department (BED) where she represents BED before Vermont's regulatory agencies and the Vermont State Legislature on regulatory proceedings and policies designed to further the City of Burlington's Net Zero Energy by 2030 goal. Prior to working for BED, Amber worked in government relations representing utility and renewable energy business clients for MMR. While earning her LLM in Energy Law at Vermont Law School, she worked as a legal intern for VELCO and as an energy law clinician for the Vermont Law School’s Institute for Energy and Environment. Prior to moving to Vermont, Amber worked for a decade as a natural resources planner implementing regulations for the State of Maryland’s Critical Area Commission for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays. Amber earned a JD with a certificate in environmental law from the University of Maryland School of Law, an MCP with a specialization in land use and environmental planning from the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and a BA in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

On Why Vermont Law School:
"VLS stood out to me as having the only energy law LLM program with a renewable energy focus. Its national reputation for being the top environmental law school, the accessibility and passion of its professors, and its community of students and alumni who are similarly driven to tackle the world's most pressing problems, made VLS the clear choice for me."

"My VLS experience is the reason I am where I am today. I moved to Vermont for the L.L.M. program, and the combination of the coursework and reaching out to guest lecturers and VLS alumni in the Vermont energy community created the opportunities for experience that made me a candidate for my current job. The job feels like a custom-tailored blend of the regulatory, legislative and legal work I enjoyed most in my previous positions. I love working for a municipal utility providing an essential public service and advancing renewable energy policy with smart, dedicated people solving complex problems everyday."
