June 10, 2020
In this video, Professor Robert Sand, Founding Director, Center for Justice Reform, discusses the charges filed related to the death of George Floyd and places those charges into the broader context of the law of homicide in general and the specific homicide statutes within Minnesota. To fairly evaluate the work of the prosecution in this case, it is essential to understand some key components of homicide law and to appreciate that every state has the ability to make unique adjustments to their homicide laws. In this 20 minute video (filmed in a car), Professor Sand places the charges into the broader legal framework.
