Attend Orientation
Fall Orientation week is mandatory. Check back in early February for the 2026 dates. In late July, you’ll receive your Orientation Welcome Packet, which contains important information such as a preliminary Orientation schedule, key department information, mental health resources, and guidance regarding academic and accessibility accommodations. A final version of the Orientation schedule will be provided to you during check-in.
Prior to Orientation:
- JD Class Registration: You will be registered for courses in early August. There is no action you need to take to be registered.
- Official VLGS Email Access: You will receive your VLGS email credentials a few weeks before your arrival in August.
- Master’s Class Registration: For students in the residential MCEP, MERL, and MARJ programs, there will be one-on-one virtual academic advising sessions prior to course registration. Click here for academic planning details.
- LLM Class Registration: Orientation for residential students in the LLM in Environmental Law, LLM in Energy Law, LLM in Food and Agriculture Law, and LLM in Animal Law programs is Wednesday August 20, 2025 with some virtual sessions on August 19 and 20 and optional activities on August 22 and 23. International students who have not studied US law are encouraged to attend the full orientation for incoming JD students, August 19-22. There will be one-on-one virtual academic advising sessions prior to course registration. Click here for academic planning details.
Pre-Orientation Assignments:
- Title IX Training: You will receive an email to your VLGS account in early August from a company called Vector, a vendor that VLGS has partnered with to provide training resources for our community. The email will give you instructions for accessing mandatory Title IX training for all students, in compliance with federal law. You have until August 18th (the first day of Orientation) to complete the training and you can do it virtually. The training will consist of accessing a video presentation through a link provided in the Vector email (the video is approximately 30 minutes in length), followed by a short question and answer section at the end of the video to test your knowledge of the material. Completion of this training is a requirement for all members of the VLGS community. Please keep an eye out for an email from Vector and be sure to check your “junk” email folder if you don’t see it. Our Title IX Coordinator, Professor Jessica Durkis-Stokes, will also give a brief overview of the federal rules regarding Title IX during the Orientation program, and she will be available to address any concerns you may have on this topic.
Additional Information and Resources:
- Academic and Accessibility Accommodations: Please see the attached memorandum and review this policy in the 2024-2025 Student Handbook online. Accommodation requests for Orientation must be made at least 7 days prior to the start of Orientation. The 2025-2026 Student Handbook will be available in August and will contain any updates to these policies.
- Financial Aid: Students who wish to be considered for federal loans must fill out a FAFSA. If you want to be considered for need-based aid, you must respond to your award notification email and request consideration. Awards are electronically sent beginning in March and will continue on a rolling basis. The Vermont Law and Graduate FAFSA code is G11934. If you have any questions regarding your financial aid award or scholarship, please call our Financial Aid Office at (802) 831-1037 or email finaid@vermontlaw.edu. If you are utilizing federal student aid (loans) and will be receiving a refund, the quickest way to receive your refund is through direct deposit. Students are encouraged to visit the My Refunds page on CampusWeb (students cannot sign up for direct deposit in the office). Please note, refund checks for living expenses will not be available until the start of classes. If you have questions about your living expenses refund, please contact Student Accounts at studentaccounts@vermontlaw.edu or (802) 831-1271.
- Textbooks: You will receive the textbook list when you are registered for classes. Barrister’s Book Shop, located on campus and online, will make getting your books, supplies, and study aids easy and economical. Barrister’s has the best selection of new and used books, and as a student-run non-profit, gives their proceeds back as fellowships for VLGS students. Please note: If you are receiving federal student aid (loans) you may be eligible for a textbook voucher. More information regarding this program will be sent directly from the Business Office.
- Child Care Information: Child Care Information: Magic Mountain Child Care Center is the daycare center adjacent to campus. For information about hours and rates, call (802) 763-7908. For a list of other daycare centers in the area, call the Vermont Child Care Services Office at (802) 241-3110 or visit the Vermont Department for Children and Families. If you are in New Hampshire, call the Child Care Project of New Hampshire, a referral agency that deals solely with state-approved daycare providers at 603-646-3233.
- Health Insurance: Vermont Law and Graduate School does not require proof of insurance. Students living in Vermont and interested in insurance can visit Vermont Health Connect for information and health insurance resources. There, you’ll find:
You can also visit Vermont’s Medicaid website. However, please be advised that Medicaid plans are state funded and services outside of the state of enrollment are generally not covered. For example, if you currently have NY Medicaid- services in VT will not be covered and vice a versa.
Students who receive federal loans may qualify for a budget increase to cover all or part of your insurance premium. Please contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@vermontlaw.edu.
- Pay Tuition Deposits: The total deposit amount due is $750. This amount is split into two charges: The first deposit, in the amount of $250, is due by April 15th. The Second Deposit, in the amount of $500, is due by June 1st. These dates may change depending on when you are admitted, please review your admission letter to confirm. We encourage you to submit your Intent to Enroll and tuition deposits online. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and eCheck. All deposits are non-refundable and will be credited towards the first-semester tuition.
- Find Housing: Although VLGS does not offer on-campus housing, we maintain a housing website that hosts a searchable database of rental properties as a service to our students. The database is updated regularly. We strongly recommend setting up appointments with prospective landlords before visiting campus and securing housing well in advance of Orientation. Students are responsible for finding housing, but if you need assistance, please contact us at 802-831-1373 or housing@vermontlaw.edu.
- Request Final Transcripts: All offers of admission are contingent upon receiving an official transcript from your degree-granting institution with the degree earned and date conferred. This must be sent to the Admissions Office prior to the first day of classes. JD students who applied through LSAC are required to update their LSAC account with a final transcript and do not need to mail an additional final copy to VLGS. If the transcript you applied with is your final transcript with a degree conferral date, you do not need to send it again.
Billing Information
Bills will be available through CampusWeb throughout the academic term. Hard copies of bills will only be generated if specifically requested. Students should view their account on CampusWeb. A student becomes liable for their tuition upon registration. Students at Vermont Law and Graduate School are expected to take responsibility for meeting payment deadlines and adhering to relevant policies. Failure to receive a statement of account is not sufficient cause for extending payment due dates.
Accessing Your Bill
Before accessing your tuition bill, you will need to retrieve your student ID number. You will need this number to pay your bill via the online payment site.
To find your Student ID Number: Once logged into CampusWeb , please click on Audit Run under the Advising Heading on the left side. Here you will find your Vermont Law and Graduate School Student ID (6-Digit) number.
Your tuition statement is available online through CampusWeb. Transactions are posted in real time, so please check your account frequently. To access: campusweb.vermontlaw.edu.
- Click on the Business Office in the blue ribbon along the top of the page.
- On the Welcome page of the Business Office, click on “My Info” on the left side of the window.
- On the My Billing Info page, please see the “course and fee statement.”
- To make a payment click on Go to Pay Online with Transact Integrated Payments under the My Account Info section.
All amounts listed with a (-) are credits to your account. All positive amounts are charges to your account. At the bottom of the statement, you will find a Statement Balance and Balance Due. If this figure has a (-) number, you have a credit balance. If this figure is positive, you currently have a balance due that must be paid immediately. If the figure is $0, then your account is currently paid in full.
Pay Your Tuition Bill
After registering for classes, your tuition invoice will be available on CampusWeb. Any Financial Aid information should be available in the Financial Aid Office Tab: if your FAFSA form has been completed, you should be able to see your anticipated financial aid award on your account. If you do not see your anticipated financial aid, please email or call the Financial Aid Office at 802-831-1037.
Tuition is due 5 p.m. Eastern, the Thursday before the start of your class. If your Tuition Bill is not addressed before this time, you will not be enrolled in the Canvas platform. You will be asked to address any outstanding tuition prior to being enrolled in the Canvas platform.
Any remaining balance can be reviewed in the Business Office tab. Once logged into CampusWeb using your VLGS credentials, on the left-hand side of the Business Office page, click the link for My Billing Info, then in the right-hand column, click Go to Transact. You should be redirected to a secure page within the Transact online payment system.
Once on the secure page, if you have a balance due it should show up. If you don’t have a balance due, your balance should show up as $0. Balances on this secure online payment system are updated every 24-48 hours.
The online payment system will advise you of a convenience fee charge when making a payment with a credit card. This charge only applies to residential students. As a distance learning student, you will not be charged the convenience fee when you “check out” because the system will recognize you as a DL student.
Refunds
- Credit balances that are created as a result of a disbursement of any Title IV Federal Student loans on students’ accounts must be refunded to students—if you are notified that a refund check has been made available and decide you do not need that money you must let the Business Office or Financial Aid Office know so that funds can be sent back to the Department of Education and your loan reduced accordingly.
- Refunds begin to process during the first week of classes. Students will be notified via Vermont Law and Graduate School email address when refunds are ready in the Business Office (2nd floor of Leahy House).
- Notifications of available refunds will be sent to the student’s Vermont Law and Graduate School email address from the Student Accounts Office. Federal regulations require students to cash a federally funded check within a timely manner. All checks issues by Vermont Law and Graduate School expire 180 days from the date of issue. Checks can be reissued; however, a student must submit the Stop Payment form provided by Student Accounts. A stop payment fee will be assessed on any check over $250.
- Checks that are not picked up within 21 days of being issued that are the result of a disbursement of federal funds will be voided and returned to the loan lender. Students will have the ability to request the funds again within the same semester if needed.
- A paper notice will be put in the student’s mailbox at 14 days, giving the one week (seven days) to make necessary arrangements to pick up the check.
- Checks that are issued near the end of a semester must be picked up within 21 days of being issued or they will be voided. All checks issued by VLGS expire 180 days from the date of issue.
- Checks can be reissued. To request a reissued check, a student must submit the Stop Payment form provided by Student Accounts. A stop-payment fee will be assessed on any check over $250.00 When a refund is issued, an email notification will be sent to the student’s Vermont Law and Graduate School email address. If the student has not received notification of a refund, the student should view their account on CampusWeb. All charges must be paid in full before refunds can be issued. If a student has a miscellaneous charge (health insurance, library fine, software charge, etc.) on their account and have signed a Non- allowable Charge Form, indicating “NO”, a refund will not be issued until the charge is paid, or a new form is submitted, indicating “YES”. Valid photo identification is required when picking up a refund check. Any student who reports a refund check as lost will be required to complete a Reissue Form before a new check will be processed. Reissued refunds will be subject to a $28 stop-payment charge on the student’s account. This charge will be deducted from original refund check amount.
- ACH deposit is now available for students.
- Sign into Campus Web using your current username and password.
- Click on the Business Office link in the blue ribbon at the top.
- Select “My Refunds” from the menu on the left. Be sure to read all the information provided.
- ACH deposits that are returned for any reason (wrong account, routing number, closed account, etc.,) are subject to a $10 fee.
- Vermont Law and Graduate School is unable to void and re-issue or issue a refund check in two or more separate checks for mobile banking purposes.
- Additional mailing options (overnight/ next day delivery) are available for refund checks, at the expense of the student. Such expenses will be deducted from refund checks prior to being issued.
Business Office Forms
Using your CampusWeb login, please fill out and return the Information Release and Non Allowable Charges forms to the VLGS business office. These completed, signed forms may be emailed as an attachment to studentaccounts@vermontlaw.edu, faxed to 802-831-1171, or mailed to the Business Office, Vermont Law and Graduate School, PO Box 96, South Royalton, VT 05068. These forms must be received before your tuition payment can be fully processed, so please leave sufficient time for processing.
Provide 1098-T Information
Every January, Vermont Law and Graduate School prepares 1098-T tax forms for students for the previous tax year of enrollment. Tax information is reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) based on an individual’s social security number. Email is not a secure means to submit your social security number. Vermont Law and Graduate School has created a secure link for Distance Learning students to submit their social security number.
Please follow the link and submit your social security number as soon as possible to avoid any delays in having your tax information reported, or being able to access your form online next year.
Deferment and Reapplication Policy
Vermont Law and Graduate School does not offer students the option to defer their enrollment to a subsequent year. If you are interested in joining us for the next enrollment year, you can request that we reactivate your application once that cycle begins. This will allow you to use your existing application documents, saving you time and fees.
Additional documents may be requested. Once reactivated, your application will go through the admissions review process. Admission standards vary from year to year and a prior admission to VLGS does not guarantee admission in a subsequent year. Scholarships are never guaranteed. If you do not enroll in the following year from your initial application, a new application is required.

A hard copy of your VLGS acceptance letter will be mailed to you. Some employers need to see a formal acceptance letter to authorize employee educational benefits, so keep a copy of this letter for your records.

Class Registration
Incoming OHJD students are automatically registered for classes and do not need to take any action. Class schedules are generally available on Campus Web prior to Orientation.
Attend Virtual Online Orientation
Orientation will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams (synchronously) the week before classes start. Dates and additional details are coming soon!
Plan to Attend the First Residency
The Online Hybrid JD program has a minimal residency requirement. Students only need to attend two short, required in-person residencies in Vermont during the first and sixth semesters, plus an optional third residency outside Vermont during the final semester. Each residency runs from Thursday through Saturday,
The first residency will be held in early September at a school-selected location Students will be required to stay at the school-selected hotel. The details and schedule will be emailed to fully deposited students closer to the time of Orientation.
Buy Your Books
An online bookstore awaits you. You will be able to purchase your textbooks for your courses through our online bookstore: Barrister’s Book Shop. Be certain to order your books early, as shipping may take a few days.

Official VLGS Email and CampusWeb
Your online portal to VLGS offices will be CampusWeb. Shortly after being admitted to the program and upon receipt of your Intent to Enroll Form, the VLGS Technology Department will automatically create a VLGS email account for you.
You will receive an email at your personal email address (provided by you in your application) which will contain connection and initial login information for your new VLGS email account. When you first log into VLGS email, you will be prompted to change your temporary password; when complete, you will see an email in your inbox from our system waiting for you. This email will provide links to VLGS resources and online forms.
It is important from this point forward, all communication from Vermont Law and Graduate School will be sent to your newly created VLGS email address. In addition, we also require that you utilize your Vermont Law and Graduate School email when you are communicating with various offices on campus.
Once you have logged into your VLGS email account and changed your initial/temporary password, you will have access. CampusWeb is a comprehensive system that allows you to register for classes, access your account information, pay tuition online, and much more.

Academic Advising and Course Registration
Your academic advisor will contact you a couple weeks before the start of Term 1 to schedule an individual advising appointment to go over degree requirements and basics about the program.
- Master’s students: You will be automatically registered for your first two classes. You can discuss any changes to your schedule with your advisor.
- LLM students: After meeting with your advisor, please log in to CampusWeb and register yourself for your semester Term 1 and Term 2 classes. There are detailed instructions on CampusWeb in the section called “How to Register on CampusWeb.”
- If you have any questions about registration, the Registrar’s Office at registrar@vermontlaw.edu can provide you with instructions, assistance, or guidance. It is important to register for classes as early as possible, so your tuition bill will be accurately reflected prior to the start of class.

If the figure is $0, then your account is currently paid in full.
Pay Your Tuition Bill
After registering for classes, your tuition invoice will be available on CampusWeb. Any Financial Aid information should be available in the Financial Aid Office Tab: if your FAFSA form has been completed, you should be able to see your anticipated financial aid award on your account. If you do not see your anticipated financial aid, please email or call the Financial Aid Office at 802-831-1037.
Tuition is due 5 p.m. Eastern, the Thursday before the start of your class. If your Tuition Bill is not addressed before this time, you will not be enrolled in the Canvas platform. You will be asked to address any outstanding tuition prior to being enrolled in the Canvas platform.
Any remaining balance can be reviewed in the Business Office tab. Once logged into CampusWeb using your VLGS credentials, on the left-hand side of the Business Office page, click the link for My Billing Info, then in the right-hand column, click Go to Transact. You should be redirected to a secure page within the Transact online payment system.
Once on the secure page, if you have a balance due it should show up. If you don’t have a balance due, your balance should show up as $0. Balances on this secure online payment system are updated every 24-48 hours.
The online payment system will advise you of a convenience fee charge when making a payment with a credit card. This charge only applies to residential students. As a distance learning student, you will not be charged the convenience fee when you “check out” because the system will recognize you as a DL student.
Refunds
- Credit balances that are created as a result of a disbursement of any Title IV Federal Student loans on students’ accounts must be refunded to students—if you are notified that a refund check has been made available and decide you do not need that money you must let the Business Office or Financial Aid Office know so that funds can be sent back to the Department of Education and your loan reduced accordingly.
- Refunds begin to process during the first week of classes. Students will be notified via Vermont Law and Graduate School email address when refunds are ready in the Business Office (2nd floor of Leahy House).
- Notifications of available refunds will be sent to the student’s Vermont Law and Graduate School email address from the Student Accounts Office. Federal regulations require students to cash a federally funded check within a timely manner. All checks issues by Vermont Law and Graduate School expire 180 days from the date of issue. Checks can be reissued; however, a student must submit the Stop Payment form provided by Student Accounts. A stop payment fee will be assessed on any check over $250.
- Checks that are not picked up within 21 days of being issued that are the result of a disbursement of federal funds will be voided and returned to the loan lender. Students will have the ability to request the funds again within the same semester if needed.
- A paper notice will be put in the student’s mailbox at 14 days, giving the one week (seven days) to make necessary arrangements to pick up the check.
- Checks that are issued near the end of a semester must be picked up within 21 days of being issued or they will be voided. All checks issued by VLGS expire 180 days from the date of issue.
- Checks can be reissued. To request a reissued check, a student must submit the Stop Payment form provided by Student Accounts. A stop-payment fee will be assessed on any check over $250.00 When a refund is issued, an email notification will be sent to the student’s Vermont Law and Graduate School email address. If the student has not received notification of a refund, the student should view their account on CampusWeb. All charges must be paid in full before refunds can be issued. If a student has a miscellaneous charge (health insurance, library fine, software charge, etc.) on their account and have signed a Non- allowable Charge Form, indicating “NO”, a refund will not be issued until the charge is paid, or a new form is submitted, indicating “YES”. Valid photo identification is required when picking up a refund check. Any student who reports a refund check as lost will be required to complete a Reissue Form before a new check will be processed. Reissued refunds will be subject to a $28 stop-payment charge on the student’s account. This charge will be deducted from original refund check amount.
- ACH deposit is now available for students.
- Sign into Campus Web using your current username and password.
- Click on the Business Office link in the blue ribbon at the top.
- Select “My Refunds” from the menu on the left. Be sure to read all the information provided.
- ACH deposits that are returned for any reason (wrong account, routing number, closed account, etc.,) are subject to a $10 fee.
- Vermont Law and Graduate School is unable to void and re-issue or issue a refund check in two or more separate checks for mobile banking purposes.
- Additional mailing options (overnight/ next day delivery) are available for refund checks, at the expense of the student. Such expenses will be deducted from refund checks prior to being issued.
Provide 1098-T Information
Every January, Vermont Law and Graduate School prepares 1098-T tax forms for students for the previous tax year of enrollment. Tax information is reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) based on an individual’s social security number. Email is not a secure means to submit your social security number. Vermont Law and Graduate School has created a secure link for Distance Learning students to submit their social security number.
Please follow the link and submit your social security number as soon as possible to avoid any delays in having your tax information reported, or being able to access your form online next year.
Review Contact Information
Please review your current mailing address and telephone number as it appears in the CampusWeb portal. You will find your personal information under the My Profile heading on the left side. This current mailing address will be used to mail out refund checks, if applicable, and your 1098-T tax form.
If the current mailing address is wrong in the CampusWeb portal, please send an address update email to DLRegistrar@vermontlaw.edu. Please note that it will take 24-48 hours for the update to appear.
Buy Your Books
An online bookstore awaits you. You will be able to purchase your textbooks for your courses through our online bookstore: Barristers Bookstore. Be certain to order your books early, as shipping may take a few days.
Student Identifications
If you wish to obtain a student identification card from Vermont Law and Graduate School, request a student ID using the online form. Please note student ID’s are not processed and mailed until the start of class of your entering term.
The Online Classroom
After you have registered for your first term class(es) in CampusWeb, you will gain access to the distance learning platform, Canvas. This Learning Management System (LMS) delivers the resources and tools for your online experience at Vermont Law and Graduate School. It is a great idea to bookmark the platform page so you can easily access the online classroom. Your VLGS credentials will be required to access Canvas.
Orientation
Orientation for online master’s and LLM students includes an online module and sessions on Microsoft Teams. The Teams sessions will be recorded so that you can either watch live or at your convenience.
All new master’s students are required to attend the “Welcome to Graduate School” session on Teams at the scheduled time, 6 to 7:30 pm ET, on Monday, August 18. It will not be recorded.
You will be enrolled in an Orientation Module that starts one week prior to the start of your first class – the Online Program and Student Engagement Coordinator will remind you when that Orientation is due to start. This orientation is an online introduction to the Vermont Law and Graduate School, the online platform, and various expectations, policies, and school codes. This course is required and self-guided and you must complete it before the start of your first class.
The Orientation course has two goals. First, to acquaint you with Vermont Law and Graduate School, the school’s programs and philosophy, and to help you review key concepts that will become important to your first set of classes. Second, we want you to have an opportunity to work within the online classroom, experimenting with the different technologies you and your professors will employ. While “assignments” within the orientation are not graded, they must be completed.
Your Online Program and Student Engagement Coordinator will be to make sure all tasks are completed successfully. By completing the orientation, we will help you sort out any kinks in accessing the online classroom technologies and help you be as prepared as possible for your first class. The orientation course will remain accessible to you throughout your studies so you may refer back to it as necessary.
Looking Ahead – Summer Session
We encourage you to explore Vermont Law and Graduate School’s world-renowned Summer Session. Our Summer Session consists of 4 abbreviated terms and takes place in-person on our campus in beautiful South Royalton, Vermont. Course offerings include weekend intensives, and two and three-week long courses on topics in environmental law and policy.
