This project is designed to help people who live near factory farms (also known as “CAFOs”) receive fair property tax assessments that account for the negative impacts of the factory farms. The hope is that neighbors can receive fair assessments, and state and local governments will be more likely to consider the true costs of factory farms when making relevant policy decisions.

The Clinic has developed state-specific property tax appeal guides for a handful of priority CAFO states, in coordination with on-the-ground consultants and attorneys in those states. Completed guides are available at www.factoryfarmtaxprotest.org. The website also has other helpful resources compiled for the project, such as a factory farm fact sheet and links to tax appeal information for other states.
