About This Class

This course is an introduction to the law of pollution control, management of hazardous materials, and preservation of natural resources, with a particular emphasis on major federal environmental statutes, including the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and Superfund. The contrasting regulatory mechanisms in the different statutes, with consideration given to the economic and ethical assumptions underlying the different approaches, and the resolution of environmental problems through private litigation, federal regulation, economic incentive systems, and judicial review of administrative decisions are examined.
