Developed by Vermont Law School’s Tuholske Institute for Environmental Field Studies, this Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Agreement helps to mitigate field course risk and liability at academic institutions.

Teaching outside of the classroom yields new opportunities—but also new challenges. From natural hazards to strenuous activities, field study courses can require us to assume and mitigate a range of risks.

Building on Vermont Law School’s years of experience leading courses in remote, outdoor, and international destinations, the Tuholske Institute for Environmental Field Studies has created a liability release form specifically for environmental field courses. We welcome other institutions to reference and adapt it for their own purposes.
