Biography
Contact
Jessica Bell (she/her) is the legal director of the MAPLE Initiative and a senior energy research fellow at the Institute for Energy and the Environment. Jessica has pursued a career in energy law focused on the public interest.
Jessica was born and raised in New England. She has a BA, cum laude, in chemistry from Wellesley College and received a JD with academic honors from Columbia Law School. During law school, she served on the board of the Human Rights Law Review and completed internships at the State of Alaska Department of Law and the U.S. Department of Justice.
Upon her graduation from law school, she clerked for the Honorable Andrew M. Mead of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. She was then an honors fellow in the Office of General Counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Following her time in government, she joined Spiegel & McDiarmid LLP as an associate, where she advocated for municipal utilities before federal agencies and courts. Then, she joined the State Energy & Environmental Impact Center at NYU School of Law as clean energy attorney and then deputy director and energy director.
