Biography

William Stocker is a criminal defense litigation attorney who joined Vermont Law and Graduate Law as full-time faculty in 2026.

Professor Stocker first came to VLGS as a nontraditional student having previously served in the United States Navy as a nuclear electrician and operator submariner on board the USS Wyoming. After graduating, Professor Stocker served two terms as the Judicial Law Clerk for the Windsor County Superior Court in Vermont. While in that role, he had the privilege of writing for Judge John Treadwell, Judge Heather Gray, and Judge Robert Gerety. Following, Professor Stocker spent his years in practice providing public defense in Orange County and Orleans County, Vermont, taking several misdemeanor and felony level offenses to trial.

Returning to VLGS, Professor Stocker serves in the JD Externship department helping students find and apply for externship placements, mentoring students on their professional identity formation, and preparing them for the transition from law student to practicing attorney. In addition, Professor Stocker teaches Legal Writing and Essay Writing for Exams.
