Biography

Emily Whitsett is a 2L from Dallas, Texas. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a specialization in special education from Texas State University and taught for eight years before completing her MEd in special education assessment at the University of North Texas, transitioning into the role of an educational diagnostician. She also holds an administration certification and, as a special education coordinator, has managed large teams of assessment personnel in the public school setting. Upon acceptance into VLGS’s Online Hybrid JD (OHJD) program, she returned to her roots as an educational diagnostician where she currently works in Texas public schools.

In addition to serving on the VLGS Board of Trustees, Emily serves as a 2L OHJD Senator. During her 1L year, she earned an Academic Excellence Award in Legal Writing. She is pursuing a general practice track and is passionate about civil rights and advocacy for marginalized communities, while remaining open to discovering additional areas of law where she can make an impact. Outside of work and school, Emily can be found connecting with nature, trying a new recipe, or working on a sewing project.

Emily lives in Dallas, Texas, with her wife and their cats, Otis and Loki.
