Biography

Kevin Cassidy is a professor of law and co-director of the Environmental Advocacy Clinic. Professor Cassidy brings 24 years of combined civil and criminal environmental litigation experience with him to Vermont Law and Graduate School. Before joining VLGS in 2026, he spent 15 years as a senior staff attorney for Lewis & Clark Law School’s environmental litigation clinic, founding the clinic’s East Coast office in Massachusetts and working remotely with law students on public interest environmental cases throughout the United States.

Professor Cassidy also taught classes in Environmental Crimes and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Prior to Lewis & Clark, Professor Cassidy was a senior trial attorney with the Environmental Crimes Section at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he prosecuted corporations and individuals for violations of federal environmental, criminal, and worker safety laws. While at the Justice Department, Professor Cassidy also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, served on the Department’s Environmental Crimes Policy Committee, and taught environmental courses at the Department’s National Advocacy Center. He has been admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Oregon (inactive) and various federal courts.

Professor Cassidy received his juris doctor cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School, with a Certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law. He earned a bachelor of arts in English from the University of Connecticut at Storrs, aka the Basketball Capital of the World.
