SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt.

SOUTH ROYALTON, Vt., Aug. 13, 2014—The Vermont Journal of Environmental Law (VJEL) has announced its first annual White River Environmental Law Writing Competition, open to law students across the country for a chance to win $1,000 and publication in VJEL.

As the environmental law journal of Vermont Law School, home of the top-ranked environmental law program in the United States, VJEL is positioned to reach audiences on a global scale and affords students a unique opportunity to participate in current debates surrounding far-reaching environmental law and policy issues.

“‪The Vermont Journal of Environmental Law continually strives to foster discourse on contemporary issues in environmental law,” said VJEL Editor-in-Chief Andrew Minikowski ’15, of the inspiration behind the competition. “Part of that includes bringing a diversity of voices into the conversation. By launching the White River Environmental Law Writing Competition, we hope to encourage law students from all over the country to discuss environmental issues through the particular lens provided to them by their regional, cultural, and political backgrounds, and to share these viewpoints in the legal community.”

Any student currently pursuing a juris doctor (JD) or master of laws (LLM) degree at an accredited law school in the U.S. is invited to submit an original essay addressing a relevant topic in environmental law, natural resources law, energy law, environmental justice, land use law, animal law, or agricultural law. While only one winner will be selected, additional submissions may receive offers of publication.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014.
