Seventh Annual VLS Energy Law and Policy Symposium
October 29, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT
Topic: COVID-19 and the Clean Energy Transition
The year 2020 began with much promise as more states, municipalities, and corporations stepped up to the challenge of the clean energy transition with new commitments to achieve 100% renewable energy. Then, both government and private industry were confronted with a new immediate challenge with the arrival of a new strain of the coronavirus, COVID-19. Soon, these same states were issuing stay at home orders and requesting that everyone follow public health guidelines, including adequate social distancing. Six months later, the pandemic and the public health and economic disparities that it has laid bare are being further magnified by the rapid advance of climate change, with wildfires and severe weather events confirming the need to accelerate the clean energy transition.
In response, the VLS Alumni in Energy affinity group and the Institute for Energy and the Environment have created this virtual panel on COVID-19 and the clean energy transition to discuss the impact of these pressing social and environmental challenges.
