Introduction to Legal Studies

About this Course

This course introduces the fields of legal analysis, research, and writing through the study of environmental statutes and case law.  It also explores research and investigatory techniques, citation form, legal reasoning, writing skills, and professionalism.  Course content will include legal research, the legal system, the role of the courts, how to read laws and regulations and how to handle complex statutes, and legislation. It will also cover constitutional law, civil procedure, contracts, and torts, as those topics relate to environmental issues. The course includes two writing assignments on complex environmental issues.
