Professional Responsibility

Professor(s)

Semester

2017 Fall

About This Class

Problem based study of lawyer's professional ethical obligations and issues of professional formation. Includes ABA Model Rules, ethical rules from selected jurisdictions - especially the jurisdictions where students may practice - and other laws and traditions governing lawyer's conduct. Class focus is on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to identify ethical dilemmas and the tools to help resolve them. Evaluation is based on student participation (individual, small group and on-line), CALI lessons, written and oral book discussion, one written mid-term, and one written final assessment. While the focus of this class is on legal ethics in practice, and not on the MPRE, students should consider taking the MPRE during the semester (November 4, 2017) as this class, plus a bar prep course focused on the MPRE, can be helpful in MPRE preparation.
