About This Class

This course provides an introduction to public law, which consists of the rules and procedures that legislatures and administrative agencies develop and implement, subject to review and correction by the courts. Public law can be contrasted with private law, which traditionally has been developed primarily, if not exclusively, by the courts; private law includes, for example, the rules governing torts, like negligence. In the 21st century, public law is the most important realm of law for a citizen seeking to use legal tools to protect the environment or address many other broad social problems.
