About This Class

This course simulates the experience of preparing for trial under the supervision of experienced trial lawyers. Students will prepare and perform the trial problem issued each November by the prestigious Texas Young Lawyers’ Association National Trial Competition. This process will involve intensive review of the Federal Rules of Evidence and applicable trial practice concepts, as well as significant factual analysis, focus, preparation and practice on one detailed problem in order to best replicate the experience of a real trial. Four students will then be selected from those enrolled to travel to and compete in the TYLA Regional Trial Competition.Method of evaluation: students are evaluated and graded on preparation for class practice sessions and participation in class. This includes student evaluation of the trial case, researching, understanding, and responding to evidentiary issues, and mastering courtroom trial practice skills. Heavy emphasis is put of the preparation and final submission of student trial notes books as well as actual trial skills demonstrated at the trial competition.
