International and Comparative Law Programs

At Vermont Law School, we recognize the pressing need for a deeper understanding of other societies, governments, and systems of law. Many VLS students choose an international experience each year, understanding that the lawyers and policy makers tomorrow must be prepared to address multiple concerns among countries, including issues of trade, treaties, corporate law, environmental protection, and human rights.

Our International and comparative law programs offer a variety of opportunities to expand your horizons—through intensive coursework; a year, a semester, or a few weeks spent working or studying abroad; conferences and guest lectures; focused research; and our partnerships with universities in France, Italy, Spain, China, and Russia. You will emerge with a solid foundation in international and comparative law, as well as a valuable global perspective.

Degree Programs

We offer an LLM in American Legal Studies to international students; an LLM in Spanish Constitutional Law in conjunction with the University of Seville, Spain; a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, England; and a JD and French Masters II with the University of Cergy-Pontoise in France.

Program Options

Our certificate enables VLS JD students interested in transnational practice to concentrate in international and comparative law, gaining the skills and substantive knowledge required for a career in the international field. Additionally, with a robust offering of study abroad options, VLS students have the opportunity to gain international experience well before completing their degrees.

We offer international and comparative law classes, taught by VLS faculty members as well as visiting professors from countries such as France, Italy, and Spain.
