	<Title type="string" label="Title" readonly="false" hidden="false" required="false">Wynterfoest 2013</Title><Abstract type="dhtml" label="Description" readonly="false" hidden="false" required="false"><![CDATA[<p>A week of activities for the VLS community celebrating all that Vermont has to offer in the winter months, culminating in the Barrister's Ball on February 2. Sponsored by the Student Bar Association (SBA). Those in the VLS community should look for your email from the SBA for details on team signups.</p>
<p><strong>Take a Hike Kent's Ledge&nbsp;&nbsp;&mdash; </strong>January 26-January 30<br />Teams are challenged to conquer the summit of the local mountain during a four-day window. Boots, appropriate clothing, and a thermos are recommended. Points will be awarded for participation (10 points); to the first, second, and third teams to reach the ledge, take a photo, and submit it via email (40-25-15 points), and to the team that sends the biggest expedition party out into the tundra (40 points).</p>
<p><strong>GleeLS Karaoke Home Edition&nbsp;&mdash; </strong>January 26-January 29<br />Since no one was an English major in undergrad, this may be the toughest challenge of all. Teams are invited to write a minimum of one verse / one refrain of an original spoof of life at VLS / in South Royalton and to set it to a pop song. The deadline for submission is Wynterfest Wednesday, Jan. 29 @ 5 p.m. The SBA will then narrow the submissions to a top three winners, who will have the chance to grab the microphone and battle in between rounds at Trivia Thursday night and perform (40-25-15 points for the top three songs; 30 points for singing them).</p>
<p><strong>Mascot Presentation&nbsp;&mdash; </strong>January 28, 12:45, Library Foyer<br />What unites famous sports teams, brands, and our hometowns? Mascots. Some disconnected from reality like the McDonalds Moon Mac of the 1980s. Some, like the Fighting Swan of VLS, near and dear. Teams are invited to develop their own mascots, whether a person in costume, a friend from the animal kingdom, an inanimate object, or otherwise. The Library Staff and friends will judge the first, second and third place winners (40-25-15 points).</p>
<p><strong>ARC Blood Drive </strong>&mdash;&nbsp;January 28, 9:30-4:30, Chase Center<br />The Red Cross will be on campus for much-needed donations of blood. Points will be awarded for challengers who donate and those who volunteer in the Candyland area/snack station, helping the technicians attend to the needs of donors, and as siting with setup and takedown. Donors: avoid waiting in lines by calling (800) REDCROSS or visiting www.redcrossblood.org. Volunteers can sign up here. Thanks to former SBA Vice President for Activities, and a standup alumna, Erin Wyatt for the spreadsheet (5 points for each donor, 3 points for each volunteer).</p>
<p><strong>Magic Mountain Day </strong>&mdash; January 29, 9:30-4:30, Davis House<br />The little tykes next store can use our help brightening up, organizing, and undertaking other projects as needed by the staff. This volunteer opportunity also provides a chance to meet the local celebrities behind the real kidder-pillar. Monday afternoon will be dedicated to prep work, taping off, spackling, moving furniture as needed for some painting. On Tuesday, teams will get rolling (5 points for each team member who puts in an hour of time).</p>
<p><strong>Poutine Bake </strong>&mdash;&nbsp;January 29, 4:30, Chase Center<br />In honor of a fortified people just to the north of Vermont who laugh in the face of old man winter, teams are invited to select ingredients and develop recipes for their best poutine, a cheese and gravy dish with tres variations. Cheese curds are the tradition, but any fromage is acceptable. Here are just a few ideas to get everyone started from La Banquise, Montreal's poutine mecca. Sterno trays to keep the tasty treats warm will be provided; bring your poutine in a foil pan or in a form that can be moved to the trays. Points will be awarded via jury of peers for first, second and third place (50-40-30).</p>
<p><strong>The Art of Tug of War</strong> &mdash; January 30, 12:45, Debevoise Back Lawn<br />The adversarial model takes on a new form as strength and footing meet the challenges of winter weather. Again, this is a dress for the season event, and we encourage all participants to protect themselves against the freeze (30-25-10).</p>
<p><strong>ILS Empty Bowl Benefit </strong>&mdash; January 31, 11:00-2:00, Chase Center<br />Calling all soup makers! Teams will be awarded points for making and donating soup to be sold at this annual tasty ILS benefit. Proceeds will benefit the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program (VRRP). Founded in 1980, VRRP provides services to newly arrived refugees in Vermont helping them adapt to life in the United States. Since 1989, VRRP has helped resettle more than six thousand refugees from more than thirty countries including Burundi, Congo-Brazzaville, Sudan, Russia, Iraq, Burma, Somalia and Bhutan. Please join ILS in supporting the work of the VRRP! Teams making soup should email ILS Co-Chair, Molly Gray (mollygray@vermontlaw.edu) no later than noon Friday, January 25. Please include the soup name and whether a chafing dish will be needed (30 points per team, per soup, no upper limit).</p>
<p><strong>Team Trivia </strong>&mdash; January 31, 8:00 p.m., Crossroads<br />Remixed by the Student Bar Association with guest hostess Allison Stokes; categories to be announced. No cover and points for the first, second, and third place teams (50-40-30).</p>
<p>Winners will be announced at the end of Trivia.</p>
