Visiting Scholar in Rhetoric and Writing
"Latin American Truth Commissions"</Title><Abstract type="dhtml" label="Description" readonly="false" hidden="false" required="false" ID="2"><![CDATA[<p>This year, the Journal of the Association of Legal Writing Directors sponsored its first ever Visiting Scholar in Rhetoric and Writing Program. Vermont Law School is one of four law schools to be awarded a Visiting Scholar grant. Vermont Law School and the VLS Diversity Committee welcome Professor Teresa Godwin Phelps to campus to present, "Latin American Truth Commissions, After the Violence and Oppression: Truth Commissions and their Consequences in Latin America."<br />Professor Phelps is a Professor of Law and Director of Legal Rhetoric at American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, DC. Her teaching and academic interests include law and literature, international truth commissions, women and the law, and human rights. Professor Phelps has published over thirty articles and three books, most recently <em>Shattered Voices: Language, Violence, and the Work of Truth Commissions </em>(University of Pennsylvania Press 2004). She has lectured internationally on women's rights and on truth commission reports.</p>
