Advocacy Group
The Advocacy Group will include participation that indicates a willingness to undertake a small part of a larger team effort focused on responding to current issues through advocacy and lobbying action. Possible projects include:
- The critical analysis of legislation and research into alternative proposals
- Visiting Montpelier to discuss current issues with legislators
- Drafting/reviewing statements supporting or opposing actions
- Commenting on legislative proposals during the public comment period
- Attending public comment forums in the local community
Even though we are overburdened it is fundamental to maintain awareness of current issues! We would appreciate any information about current issues and the potential for our collective voice to be heard. Even if you cannot contribute to the workload, your eyes and ears are integral to our ability to make a difference in our community and the world. For more information, contact Matt Reudelhuber.
Join the Advocacy Group for Dinner next Wednesday
April 28 from 5:30-7:30!
Location: Cornell
Seminar Room - Library
We will be serving up some yummy vegan Jumbalaya and having great conversation with Sandra Levine of the Conservation Law Foundation, Jared Margolis a VLS grad working with the New England Coalition, Professor Pat Parenteau and possibly other lawyers actively working on litigation and oversight involving the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant.
The event will be a great opportunity to learn what actions environmental lawyers can and are taking with respect to nuclear plant discharges, relicensing and decommissioning. Learn what the VT. Senate vote not to approve relicensing of the power plant really means and how it can affect the national nuclear power scene.
Come network with folks working in great organizations and get a glimpse of life beyond VLS.
Contact Meredith Crafton if you would like to join us. Space and food is limited to the first 20 folks who reply.
