Our core systems at Vermont Law School run on up-to-date Microsoft technology, including Exchange/Outlook for email. We recommend that incoming students give serious consideration to bringing a laptop running Microsoft Windows 7, 8, or 10 with Microsoft Office 2010, 2013, 2016 or Office 365 and Internet Explorer 11, to ensure the highest level of compatibility.

If you are a current Mac owner, you are welcome to bring your Apple computer. However, you need to keep in mind that there are differences in how Microsoft products work on Apple devices as compared to PCs.

For mobile devices (phones, iPads, etc.), if you are not using a Windows-based Smart Phone, make sure that your device supports Microsoft ActiveSync (on some devices called Exchange Sync or Corporate Sync) and that you are familiar with the steps required to configure your device to work securely with Microsoft Exchange. Written instructions for configuring commonly used devices are available from the IT department.

While the IT department is able to provide general information about using your devices on campus, we do not provide in-depth technical or break-fix support. However, there are computer resellers in the area that are familiar with our technology infrastructure and are able to provide technical support as well as warranty support for both PCs and Macs.
