Laptop Purchase Program

The VLS Laptop Purchase Program is available to incoming VLS students. We will purchase the laptop described below on your behalf, configure it with the software you will need during law school and provide three years of hardware support (through DELL and/or VLS) and one year of software support free.

Cost:

$1395.00 + 6% sales tax. This includes: The Dell E6400 laptop; 3-year CompleteCare accidental damage coverage & hardware support (from manufacturer); 1 year of software support (from VLS IT); and 6% VT Sales Tax. Optional laptop upgrades and accessories are available at extra cost; see Order Form for details.

Laptop Loaner Program You are never without a laptop – if your laptop requires service, for software or hardware related problems (spyware removal, for example), you take an available loaner and return it when your laptop is repaired.
Tier 1 Laptop Support 1 full year of free software maintenance and support - get updates for all of your drivers during the first year.
Valuable Software Installed All of your Law School software needs preloaded: Windows XP Professional or Vista ($99 value), Office 2007 Professional ($199 value), Citation 9 ($49 value), Symantec (Norton) anti-virus Corporate Edition ($50 value), Flash Player, Quick Time Player, Adobe Acrobat Reader, access to printers, CD burning software and all necessary software and drivers.

Start with a New Laptop We order the systems as close to the start of the term as possible to insure the optimal useful life of the laptop (certainly through three years of law school!)
Free Software Support Avoid $60/hr software service fees for the first year
Free Hardware Support Avoid $60/hr hardware service fees for three years
The first deadline for computer purchases is July 1. The second deadline is July 21; this is the last order date for delivery by the first day of classes. Late orders will not be available by the first day of classes.

** About Vista
The VLS IT department does NOT recommend MS Vista at this time; currently, we will support Vista Ultimate only. However, we will give you the opportunity to choose Vista Ultimate, instead of XP, when you order your laptop. The systems we have selected will support MS Vista.

Ordering Deadlines and Delivery Dates

Laptops ordered by May 25 - ship on June 15
Laptops ordered by June 22 - ship on July 15
Laptops ordered by July 20 - pick up at VLS during Orientation Week

For the early delivery dates, you must pay in advance. We can ship to your home location for $20.00 extra, or you can pick up your laptop at VLS when you arrive.   Shipping is not available for financial aid-funded laptop purchases.

The first deadline for computer purchasees is May 25, and the last deadline is the first day of classes. (Late orders will not be available by the first day of classes.)
