Wireless Access
Our new wireless network has been completed!We have implemented our new wireless network across the entire VLS campus.
The new wireless solution ('Vermont Law' in your connection menu NOT VLS-Public) has already demonstrated improved coverage and capacity. You can now walk from Oakes to the Library without dropping your connection or having to log in multiple times!
Set-up Assistance
The VLS helpdesk is available to answer any questions you may have and assist with your wireless set-up should you need assistance.Tutorials are available for Windows XP (text only version), Windows 7 (text only version) and Mac (text only version). (Vista users should use the Windows 7 instructions.)
If you are experiencing difficulties with your wireless connection, please check out our quick troubleshooting guide. The difficulty could be something you can quickly resolve yourself so you may continue working!
If you are experiencing difficulties in the Library after you've attempted to troubleshoot your issues, please report your problem at the circulation desk, complete our quick form (staff will assist if you have questions) and return the completed form to the circulation desk.
If all attempts to resolves the issue yourself fail, please do not hesitate to stop by the IT help desk for assistance.
Information for Community Members and Usage Tips
The new system operates at both 2.4GHz and 5GHz according to 802.11 ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘g’ and ‘n’ standards. If your wireless card is one of the above and you're softwre is up-to-date you should be able to log in to the new wireless system. Users should be able to authenticate to the wireless network with their VLS Network/eMail login credentials. In a handful of cases, this may mean a different username and password than your GroupWise credentials.If your computer asks, the new solution utilizes WPA2-Enterprise encryption. If your network card is not capable of this type of encryption, please contact the helpdesk for assistance.
