She is one of four experienced staff attorneys who supervise the South Royalton Legal Clinic's student-clinicians at Vermont Law School. She has taught Domestic Relations at VLS.</div><div><br>Professor Zavez received her BS degree in elementary education from the University of Connecticut in 1977 and her MA degree in special education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1979. She attended VLS for one year, then from 1984 to 1987 served as a paralegal for Vermont Legal Aid while completing the Vermont Law Office Study Program under the direction of the Vermont Board of Bar Examiners. She was admitted to practice in 1988. From 1988 to 1990, she taught advocacy at Woodbury College while representing children in family court and administrative proceedings for the Office of the Defender General, Juvenile Division, in Montpelier, Vermont.</div><div><br>Prior to joining the VLS faculty in 1990, Professor Zavez also worked for Vermont Legal Aid's Developmental Disability Law Project, providing legal services to developmentally disabled persons at the Brandon Training School. In 1993, she served as lead counsel in McGrath v. Vermont Department of Employment and Training, in which the Vermont Supreme Court defined "hostile environment" in sexual harassment employment settings. From 1995 to 1997, she served as a member of the State Initiative on Protecting Abused and Neglected Children, an advisory committee to the Supreme Court of Vermont. She is a member of the International Society of Family Law and the National Association of Counsel for Children.
