ExamSoft Instructions

Vermont Law and Graduate School uses a program called ExamSoft to administer exams. In order for students to take exams on ExamSoft they must download the student portion of the program called SofTest onto their laptops (see system requirements below). Please note: Tablets and iPads are not supported and cannot be used for exams.

If a student does not have a laptop they can reserve one through the IT department by sending an email to: helpdesk@vermontlaw.edu. Students should email their request as soon as they know they will need a computer for exam period. The request to IT should contain the student's entire exam schedule.

SofTest is the only computer program, developed and licensed by ExamSoft that Vermont Law and Graduate School utilizes for exam taking. SofTest enables students to take their exams on their own laptop by blocking all access to files, programs or the internet during the exam. SofTest is used by 42 State Supreme Courts for delivery of the Bar and Legal Specialization exams. SofTest may be downloaded multiple times on multiple machines; registration is to the individual user, not the machine.

Every year each student's registration expires. Students can re-activate their registration by going into SofTest and clicking on the "Download Exam Files". The program will prompt them for their user credentials. Once the credentials are entered the registration should update.

It is recommended that all students take the mock exam which is a fake exam. The mock exam was created to give students an opportunity to test SofTest on their laptops and also to allow students to become familiar with the program BEFORE exams.

Students are responsible for ensuring that SofTest works on their laptops prior to the exam. If a student hasn't downloaded and tested SofTest prior to the exam they will have to handwrite their exam in bluebooks.
