Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles
The Vermont DMV is based in Montpelier, the state capital (approximately 40 minutes northwest of South Royalton). However, they have branch offices throughout the state. Additionally, town clerk offices perform renewals of selected motor vehicle registrations and a mobile van visits various locations in the state on a published schedule. Amtrak's Vermonter train (800.USA.RAIL) makes daily runs between Washington, D.C., and Vermont, passing through New Carrollton (Md.), Baltimore, Wilmington (Del.), Philadelphia, Trenton (N.J.), Newark (N.J.), New York City, Stamford (Conn.), Bridgeport (Conn.), New Haven (Conn.), Meriden (Conn.), Berlin (Conn.), Hartford (Conn.), Springfield (Mass.), and Amherst (Mass.).
The closest stop is in Randolph, Vt., about a 20-minute drive north of Vermont Law School. A taxi (802.728.4891) is available in Randolph by advance reservation, and a limited supply of rental cars is available from a local business (802.728.4455).
The nearest major stop is in White River Junction, Vt., about a 30-minute drive south of Vermont Law School. Taxis are always on call at the train station and Thrifty Car Rental (802.295.6611) will deliver its cars to the station.
