VLS Alumni Association
The Board has five working commitees actively working on alumni issues. Alumni are encouraged to join a VLSAA committee.
Contact Susan Davidson, Director of Alumni Programming and Annual Giving, if you would like to participate.
Regional Committee: Assists the formation of alumni "clubs" in geographic regions and supports Admissions and Career Services efforts in geographic areas.
Class Representatives Committee: Determines if the current structure of class representatives promotes an active, ongoing relationship with VLS; if not, develops and supports a new Class Representative system.
Communications and Events: Works with the Alumni Office in planning, implementing and promoting events, publications and communications with alumni.
Board Membership: Recruits and supports Board membership and development. Currently, the Board proposes to expand non — voting membership to third &madash; year students, faculty and staff.
Fund Raising Committee: Increases participation in the Annual Fund and development of VLS resources.
Admissions
If you are from a recent class, you can help VLS by receiving calls from accepted applicants to the JD and MELP. programs who live in your region. This is especially helpful to applicants who live too far from Vermont to attend Visiting Days. We provide you with a recent catalog, copies of materials which all accepted applicants receive, and a list of applicants' phone numbers from your geographic region. Contact Us at alumni@vermontlaw.edu to become an admissions volunteer.
Career Services
The Career Services Office schedules Career Fairs which offer graduates an opportunity to strut their stuff. Career Fairs are informational only; students are not interviewed for specific jobs or internships. Tables are set up for different career options, and grads and students talk informally about the graduates' practice areas. Last semester, Life After Law School and the Public Interest Career Fair were very popular. E-mail alumni@vermontlaw.edu if you'd like to volunteer.
Moot Court
Alumni who would like to act as judges or coach a team have many opportunities. VLS sponsors the traditional, required second year Moot Court. The Trial Practice course also relies on Alumni volunteers. In addition, students organize and coordinate competitions including the Costle Environmental Moot Court Competition, Criminal Trial Advocacy competition, Jessup International Moot Court competition, and the Debevoise Moot Court competition. E-mail alumni@vermontlaw.edu and we'll connect you with a contact person for the competition or course which interests you.
