Classes addressed topics such as anti-terrorism and human rights; environmental law; sex discrimination; social conflicts in the EU single market; EU enlargement & conditionality; and police-judicial cooperation in criminal matters.

The class also had time to see the sights, including Ferrari, as seen in the picture to the right. VLS offers two seminars which include an oversees component.

Tony Oposa, 2013 Distinguished International Environmental Summer Scholar

Renowned Filipino environmental lawyer Antonio A. "Tony" Oposa Jr. will be in residence as Vermont Law School's Distinguished International Environmental Scholar in Summer 2013.  President of The Law of Nature Foundation and one of Asia's leading voices in international environmental law, Tony Oposa is known globally for bringing a landmark case—included in the book Taking Back Eden: Eight Environmental Cases that Changed the World—that led the Philippine Supreme Court to recognize the principle of inter-generational responsibility, the idea that the present generation has a responsibility to protect the environment for future generations. His areas of advocacy today include water issues and climate change, and his courageous enforcement work against illegal fishing syndicates was featured in a BBC documentary film entitled Blast.  He holds a law degree from the University of the Philippines and an LLM from Harvard Law School.

While in residence at Vermont Law School, Tony Oposa will be finalizing research and writing on a project that explores the Economics of Conservation, Protection, and Restoration: "a 180-degree mind-shift from the existing paradigm of the Economics of (relentless) extraction and (over) consumption . . . to economics as if life matters."
