The 13th Global Conference The 13th Global Conference was held in Vancouver, Canada, on September 20-22, 2012. Hosted by the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law, the conference presentations addressed (1) the political, psychological, institutional and other barriers to adoption of environmental taxation, (2) emerging developments and new opportunities for introduction of environmental taxation, and (3) the potential for environmental taxation to induce technological innovation for the abatement of pollution. The 12th Global Conference. The 12th Global Conference took place in Madrid, Spain, on October 20-21, 2011. Under the theme of market instruments and sustainable economy, the conference considered the role of environmental taxation in areas such as transportation and the development of new technologies, as well as the role of environmental tax reform and permit trading in creating a sustainable economy. The conference was hosted by the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Complutense University at Madrid and the National at Distance University/Department of Business Law. The 11th Global Conference The 11th Global Conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Nov. 5-7, 2010. Hosted by the Faculty of Accountancy and Management at Mahasarakham University, the conference concentrated on ways in which environmental taxation can support climate change resilience. The Tenth Annual Conference: The Tenth Annual Global Conference on Environmental Taxation, held in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sept. 23-25, 2009, highlighted the issues of climate change and water management. It was hosted by the Portuguese Catholic University.
The Seventh Annual Conference: The Seventh Annual Conference on Environmental Taxation was held in Ottawa, Canada, on Oct. 22-24, 2006. Hosted by the University of Ottawa, the theme was translating theory into practice. The conference focused on issues such as the political feasibility of environmental economic instruments, the effect of economic instruments on competitiveness, the need to restructure fiscal policies and methods for valuing natural capital.
The Ninth Annual Conference: The Ninth Annual Global Conference on Environmental Taxation, held in Singapore on Nov. 6-7, 2008 focused on the role of taxation and other market-based instruments in addressing the environmental impacts of cities and megacities. It also provided an opportunity for discussion about other environmental issues as well, such as the role of carbon taxes and permit trading. The Eighth Annual Conference: The Eighth Annual Global Conference on Environmental Taxation was held in Munich, Germany, on Oct. 18-20, 2007. The conference focused on the positve effects of environmental taxation and environmental fiscal reform. The conference was hosted by Green Budget Germany. The Sixth Annual Conference: The Sixth Annual Conference on Environmental Taxation was held in Leuven, Belgium, on Sept. 22-24, 2005. Hosted by the Institute of Environmental and Energy Law at the University of Leuven, the conference focused on the role of economic instruments in encouraging the use of renewable energy. The Fifth Annual Conference: The Fifth Annual Conference: The Fifth Annual Global Conference on Environmental Taxation was held in Pavia, Italy, September 9-11, 2004. The European School of Advanced Studies in the Integrated Environmental Management of the University of Pavia hosted the conference. The Fourth Annual Conference: The Fourth Annual Global Conference on Environmental Taxation in Sydney, Australia, June 5-7, 2003, was hosted by Macquarie University's Department of Business Law and Centre for Environmental Law.
