JD/MELP
Vermont Law School offers a joint JD/MELP degree program for students wishing to maximize their time spent at VLS. The program offers students a unique opportunity to take Environmental Law in the first year. Through a comprehensive curriculum, joint JD/MELP degree students earn both the Juris Doctor and Master of Environmental Law and Policy degrees in the three academic years required to complete the JD. This is accomplished by combining academic credit earned during fall, spring, and summer semesters at VLS. The curriculum includes required, distributional, and elective courses, and candidates work with assigned faculty advisors to design their programs, ensuring that students complete both programs with a solid understanding of foundational legal knowledge and a comprehensive grasp of environmental legal issues. Joint JD/MELP candidates may share up to nine credits of approved environmental courses from their JD program with the MELP degree requirements. Juris Doctor students not in the joint degree program during their first year may apply for limited slots in the joint degree program at the end of the first or second year. Any JD candidate at Vermont Law School may enroll in environmental courses (enrollment limits permitting) for JD credit during the summer for an additional charge, as well as during the fall and spring semesters.
