Janice A. Forgays

Wellesley Hills, Mass.  (VLS Trustee since 2000)

Janice Alexander Forgays heads the Advanced Markets unit at Sun Life Financial in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, having joined the company in 2005.  Prior to joining Sun Life, Janice was the Vice President of Advanced Sales at National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier, Vermont.

An Honors graduate of the University of Vermont, Janice received her Bachelor of Arts degree Magna Cum Laude and was made a member of Phi Beta Kappa in recognition of her high attainments in scholarship.  As an undergraduate, Janice authored an article based upon her College Honor's scientific research that was published in the Journal of Neuroscience.

Janice received her Juris Doctorate from the Vermont Law School where she was a member of the Vermont Law Review and held the position of Research Editor for the publication.  Her Vermont Law Review article about the Food and Drug Administration's product recall powers was published in 1985.

Before joining the financial services industry, Janice was an attorney with the nationally renowned law firm of Heilmann, Ekman & Associates in Burlington, Vermont, where her practice included the general representation of business owners and high net worth individuals in all phases of tax and commercial litigation.  Prior to that, Janice was with the prestigious law firm of McNeil, Murray & Sorrell, also located in Burlington, Vermont.

Janice is a popular speaker who gives seminars on sophisticated planning topics throughout the country.  She regularly writes about planning strategies for home office and national publications.  Janice is an Adjunct Professor and serves on the Advisory Board of the Business Program at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont; is a faculty member of the National Business Institute; is past President of the Board of Directors of the Vermont Law School Alumni Association; and is a member of the Vermont Law School Board of Trustees.

Janice holds a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) designation, a NASD Series 7 license and chairs the Life Insurance Marketing Research Association (LIMRA) Advanced Sales Committee.
